TRAINING PROGRAM AND SYLLABUS

> Fundamentals of Search and Rescue, (FUNSAR), classes
throughout the year at weekly meetings. Trainees will challenge
the SARTECH II exam in May.
> Heart Association CPR, First Aid, and AED class plus a Wilderness
First Aid Class.
> Use of team rescue gear at the basic level.
> Land Navigation to include map reading, compass, pacing, and
basic terrain association.
> How to build a 24 hour pack.
> Basic level mantracking.
> Litter handling and basic patient packaging.
> Weekend training each month.
All Trainees will have had the opportunity to become a SARTECH II
and receive all of the other training and qualifications to become
Callout certified by mid-May of their first year.

> DOT First Responder Class. (Approx. 70 hours of instruction).
Includes the DOT curriculum and the AHA CPR for the Healthcare
Provider course. Additional modules include Wilderness Medical
skills.
> Additional SAR skills- Rescue gear, communications, basic ICS,
rope skills, helicopter operations and LZ set-up, SAR K-9 tactics,
etc.
> Intermediate Land Navigation which includes terrain interpretation,
cross-country navigation, individual and team long-distance
navigation, and night NAV as a crew member. May serve as the
primary navigator on training and actual missions. Basic GPS
classes are taught and encouraged.
> Intermediate level mantracking skills and practice.
> Second Year Callout members will serve as Crew Members on
SAR missions.
> Advanced Search and Rescue Skills, (ADSARS), classes at Team
meetings to challenge the SARTECH I exam in February or March.
> Advanced Land Navigation which includes day, night, rough
terrain, and foul weather as a Crew Leader in training. Use of team
GPS units and MAPTECH software.
> Advanced SAR skills which includes low-angle rope rescue,
medical strike teams, patient packaging and water operations.
> Advanced mantracking day and night.
> Serve as Crew Leaders on trainings and some SAR missions.
> Receive Crew and Field Leader training and practice.
> Receive training for Operations if interested.
> Serve as Instructors for the different Year Groups.
> Take additional SAR related courses as determined by the group.
> Serve as Crew Leaders on actual SAR missions.
